On four Friday evenings in August, we held our second
annual Hot August Nites Fun Golf tournaments. They consisted of a Shotgun Start
at 5:00, Dinner at 7:30 and lived up to its’ billing as an evening of fun, 9
holes of golf, and dinner.
The formats were:
Aug 4- Three-Club Scramble-
Aug 11- Orange Ball-
Aug 18- Shamble-
Aug 25- Par 3 Challenge
The Par 3 Challenge was the culmination of the tournaments’ with all of the holes on the Front 9 converted to Par 3s. With 4 person scramble teams, it was believed by some naive souls that 8 or 9 under par would be the rule. However, that was not the case. The tournament designer was able to place the tee boxes and the hole settings in such positions that on most holes par was the norm. While birdies were somewhat scarce, # 8 was the hero of the night yielding no (zero, nada, zilch) birdies. And it was only an 85 yd tee shot. There was a four-way tie at 4 under par. Next years’ design will tighten up some of the holes so that no better than 2 or 3 under wins. The hole settings can be accessed here . Go to the last Friday on the August calendar.
Special thanks go to the staff at SLRD, who did a spectacular job of supporting this effort. Greg, Ann, Leah, and Leah for helping organize. Mike Santos and his staff for great food (Mexican buffet, Pasta buffet, BBQ Chicken, BBQ Tri-Tip) and outstanding service. And to Mark Gleason and Chad for helping set up the Par 3 Challenge. And a special thanks to Steve Mizell, Supreme Commander of Killer Pizza From Mars for donating 4 free pizzas to each weeks’ winning team.
See you all next year.
