Member/Member Tournament
The First Annual Member/Member Tournament is to be held on Friday, Dec 15.
The tournament will consist of three 6-hole formats- 2-man Scramble, Better Ball Partners, and Pinehurst.
A 2-Man Scramble is a competition format that is exactly what it sounds like: a scramble in which the teams consist of two players each. After each shot, the better of the two shots is selected and both players play from that spot, until the ball is holed. One team score is recorded.
"2-Person Best Ball" is a best-ball competition format in which the teams consist of two players. Played as one team vs. all other 2-person teams in the field, it's simply another name for Four Ball. Each player on the team plays his own ball until completing the hole, then the lower of the two net scores is recorded as the team score for that hole. One team score is recorded.
This 2-person team competition format is named after Dick Chapman, a great amateur golfer who played The Masters 17 consecutive years. He "invented" the game at Pinehurst Resort; hence it is alternately called Chapman or Pinehurst. In the Pinehurst System, both players on a side tee off, then they switch balls. Player A plays Player B's drive, and vice-versa. Each player hits his second shot. They then select the better of the second shots, and from that point until the ball is holed they play only one ball in an alternate shot format. One team score is recorded.
Switch balls after the drive, select the one best ball after the second shot, play alternate shot until the ball is holed.
The following are the handicap allowances for the Member-Member Tournament.
Allowance: The player with the lower Course Handicap is allowed 75 percent of his Course Handicap. The player with the higher Course Handicap is allowed 25 percent of his Course Handicap. To reflect the 6-hole format, the total will be divided by 3. Example: a 7 & 14 would have an allowance of 2.92.
Allowance: Adjustment is made on the Handicap-Stroke Hole. A “handicap-stroke hole” is a hole on which a player is entitled to apply a handicap stroke based on the order assigned on the scorecard. For example, a player receiving three strokes takes them on the first, second, and third rated stroke holes. In our tournament a player with a 4 handicap would apply an adjusting stroke to holes 7 and 10.
Allowance: The player with the lower Course Handicap is allowed 60 percent of his Course Handicap. The player with the higher Course Handicap is allowed 40 percent of his Course Handicap. To reflect the 6-hole format, the total will be divided by 3. Example: a 7 & 14 would have an allowance of 3.27.
The tournament competition will consist of 4 flights. The flights will be based on the combined handicaps of each team. If we have 40 teams there will be 10 teams in each flight. Payouts will be for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in each of the four flights for each of the three formats, giving 36 different payouts. In addition, payouts will be given for Overall scoring consisting of the combined net scores for each of the three formats. While each format is flighted the overall will not be flighted. The Overall Payout will be the top five net scores regardless of flight if we have 40 teams, and the top ten net scores if we have 50 teams.
Tie Breaker Procedure: With the limited number of holes to play in each format, it is expected that ties will be experienced. A tie breaker procedure will be applied to each of the formats. Scorecard match play will be used to determine the winners, beginning with the #1 handicap hole in each of the formats and continuing until the order is determined for the first three places. If teams are still tied after the 6 holes, a coin flip will determine the places. A tie breaker procedure will not be used in the Overall. If there is a tie in the Overall, the finish positions will be combined. I.e. 1,2,2,2,5,….
